Cycling is not only a great way of getting from A to B, it can also help reduce the risk of a number of serious illnesses, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes and stroke.  It can also help boost your mood, which can improve the symptoms of some mental health conditions, such as depression and anxiety.

Cycling can also help you maintain a healthy weight and as it’s a low impact form of exercise, it's a lot easier on your joints compared to high impact aerobic activities, like running.

If you choose to cycle instead of driving or using public transport, it can also save you money and help protect the environment.

Cycle routes

Herefordshire is a wonderful county for exploring by bike and there’s a range of fantastic cycle routes and networks in and around Hereford, Ledbury, Leominster and Ross-on-Wye.

Commuting by bike

If you’re looking to beat the traffic or perhaps you want to build some exercise into your daily work commute, why not try Park and Cycle?  There’s currently 23 Park and Cycle locations across the county, where you can park your car before continuing your journey by bike.  A number of locations also have secure lockers available, where you can leave your bike overnight.

Adaptive / accessibility bikes

If you have physical or mobility difficulties, there’s a range of different bikes available for hire  at  the cycle track at Halo Hereford Leisure Centre.  Available bikes include wheelchair bikes, hand bikes, tandems, twin bikes and tag-along bikes. 

Adaptive cycles are only available when Halo's Cycling Development Officers are at the cycle track, please check the timetable on the Halo website to see when the sessions are happening (they are called Staffed Sessions on the timetable).

Don’t have a bike?

Why not register with the Beryl Bikes bike share scheme, which gives you quick and easy access to 200 Beryl Bikes and 30 Beryl e-Bikes from 65 Beryl Bays across Hereford.  Remember to look for the distinctive green colour!
