Children and home alone age

There is no rule or law about when it is ok to leave your child home alone as each child is different. All the law says is to make sure the child is not at risk if left alone.

There is lots of information on the NSPCC - Home alone website about when it's not ok to leave your child home alone, as well as tools to see if you think your child is ready.

You will also need to think about preparing your child for this and making sure they know what to do in situations including if there is a stranger knocking on the door, a power cut or if they're hungry and need to prepare some food.
